Living in Epsom

Epsom is a market town in the borough of Epsom and Ewell in Surrey, England. Small parts of Epsom are in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead and Mole Valley District.
Owing partly to its position in the London commuter belt allowing easy access to the Greater London conurbation to the north and the rolling Surrey countryside to the south, the borough of Epsom and Ewell was named in as the “Best Place to Live” in the United Kingdom. Epsom offers a wide choice of property, ranging from lovely Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian houses, to Twenties detached and semi-detached houses, to tiny Victorian artisans’ cottages and modern town centre flats. There are a number of conservation areas. Worth seeking out are the large late-Victorian and Edwardian houses in the Burgh Heath Road conservation area south-east of the town centre, and also the Ewell Downs Road and Higher Green Higher Green conservation areas, both of which have large, detached Twenties houses built by famed local builder Ernest Harwood.
The Ashley Centre, a shopping mall, was built in the early 1980s and subsequently parts of the high street were pedestrianised as part of the construction of the town’s one-way system. In the 1990s, a large multiplex Odeon cinema was built in Upper High Street. The late 1990s saw the development of the Ebbisham Centre (not to be confused with the nearby early 18th century Ebbisham House), a community service based development, including a doctors’ surgery, Epsom Library, a cafe and a health and fitness centre. The Derby Square expanded and includes a number of franchise chain pubs/bars.
The University for the Creative Arts has one of its five campuses in Epsom. Laine Theatre Arts, an independent performing arts college, is based in the town. Students have included Victoria Beckham. Leisure facilities in and around the town include a leisure centre (the Rainbow Centre) on East Street; Epsom Downs Racecourse; the Odeon cinema ; and the Horton Park Children’s Farm.

Six Tips For A Stress Free House Move

Six Tips For A Stress Free House Move
Moving home is a stressful experience whether you like it or not. In this bog post we’re going to present six great tips to help ensure that stress levels remain at a minimum – allowing you to enjoy the big move day as much as possible!
Moving home tips
1. Book a removal company well in advance
Certain times of the year tend to be popular for people to move house – especially those warmer months in the summer. It’s important to book a removal company will in advance to ensure that you’ve got the professional help needed to move your possessions from A to B. By moving house at a time when removal companies aren’t in high demand, you can save money because their rates tend to be cheaper. When booking a company, always look at online reviews and ask for recommendations from friends and family.
2. Check your possessions are insured
When you move house with us, you can rest assured that your possessions are insured while we have them in our trucks and lorries. The same can’t be said of all removal companies, so take the time to ask the removal company you’re planning to use whether or not your possessions are covered. There’s nothing worse than having things damaged or lost during a move, only to find you’re not covered for the cost of repair or replacement.
3. Be the last to exit, and the first to enter
Make sure you’re the last person out of your old property and the first person to enter your new property. When leaving your old home, make sure everything is in the condition you agreed with the buyer. When you move into your new property, you need to make sure that everything is in order and as you agreed with the seller. 99% of the time there won’t be anything to worry about, but every now and then there might be a small problem, so make sure you’re the first on the scene!
4. Charge your mobile phone
It goes without saying, but it’s incredible how we tend to forget those small things when dealing with the stress of moving house. Ensure your mobile phone is charged properly, this means you can take calls from solicitors and other parties throughout the day.
5. Don’t forget to read the meters
Read the gas and electricity meters before you leave your old property and as you move into your new property. Pass these readings onto your energy suppliers to ensure that you don’t end up having to pay for energy that someone else has used.
6. Treat yourself to a takeaway for tea
After a long, hard day spent moving home, the last thing you want to do is to unpack your kitchen boxes and cook a big slap up meal. Instead, treat yourself to a takeaway and let someone else worry about cooking dinner for you.
Moving home will always be stressful, but if you take note of our six top moving tips you can make the big day flow a whole lot smoother!

F Smith & Sons a genuine family business for over 80 yrs for moving house in Surrey

F Smith & Son Removals Surrey

For over 80 years, F Smith & Son have been moving families in and around Surrey. We believe every move (and every customer) is unique and deserves to be treated as such. Therefore, we do not have one-size-fits-all services. Instead, we provide a wide range of removals services that can be customized to suit the needs of each customer.
Some of our customers prefer to pack some or all of their belongings themselves. If this is the case, we can provide high quality packing materials at excellent prices. For customers that prefer a professional packing service, we have a range of options to choose from.
For example, packing an average kitchen can be time consuming and requires crockery and other breakable items to be individually wrapped and protected before boxing. There may also be other fragile ornaments or items in your house that require special attention. So, we can provide a crew of skilled, trained packers that can pack your kitchen and other fragile items from around the house. This can be done as part of a full packing service, or as required on a room by room or item by item basis.
We protect your furniture on every move. This is not an added service, but comes as standard on all house removals, whether it’s a one bedroom flat, a stately home or anything in between. However, we can offer more specialist packing and protection for specified items.
Occasionally, large items need to be dismantled before they can be moved. Such items are usually identified by our surveyor, when he visits prior to your move. Our dismantling and reassembly service can be customized if needed.
It is not unusual for our removals customers to take advantage of our low-cost storage service, particularly if they are downsizing or need time to redecorate their new home before receiving all their furniture. Again, this can be done on a room by room or item by item basis.
We have been moving homes for a long time and appreciate the uniqueness of every move, so we are happy to discuss your requirements and provide the professional removals service that suits your needs.
